Rogers Park has a personality all its own. The lakefront is a string of neighborhood beaches and parks instead of one big one, and they feel like they belong to the block. Sheridan Road, Clark Street, Morse and Howard carry the restaurants, cafes and shops. The Glenwood Avenue Arts District runs along the L tracks with theaters, studios and bars. Loyola University Chicago sits at the south end, which keeps coffee shops and bookstores busy.
Vintage courtyard condos are the signature, along with brick two-flats and three-flats, mid-rise buildings near the lake, and single-family homes on the west side. A lot of the condo stock dates to the 1920s, so sunrooms, high ceilings and radiator heat come standard.
The CTA Red Line stops at Loyola, Morse, Jarvis and Howard. Howard is also where the Purple Line to Evanston and the Yellow Line to Skokie begin. Metra's Union Pacific North line stops at Rogers Park station, at Lunt and Ravenswood, one of the busiest stops on the system.
I'm Megan Sullivan with Compass. Vintage condo buildings up here range from beautifully run to barely holding on. I'll help you read the reserves, the meeting minutes and the special assessment history so you know which one you're buying into.
