Irving Park

Irving Park is where the North Side spreads out. Old Irving Park has Victorians and a few old farmhouses. The Villa has Craftsman bungalows on boulevard-style streets. Around them you get parks, corner taverns and a Blue Line ride that reaches both the Loop and O'Hare.

What is it like to live in Irving Park, Chicago?

Irving Park is really a handful of smaller neighborhoods, each with its own look. Old Irving Park is the showpiece, with Queen Anne and Italianate houses that date to the area's start as a railroad suburb. The Villa is a landmark district of Craftsman homes and bungalows. Independence Park, West Walker and California Park fill in the east side. Life here is yards, porches and neighborhood parks, with restaurants and bars along Irving Park Road, Elston and Milwaukee.

What kinds of homes are in Irving Park?

More detached houses than most of the North Side: Victorians, farmhouses and bungalows, plus brick two-flats and courtyard buildings. Buyers who have outgrown a condo in Lakeview or Roscoe Village often land here.

How do you get around?

The CTA Blue Line stops at Addison, Irving Park and Montrose. Metra's Union Pacific Northwest line stops at Irving Park, right next to the Blue Line station. The Kennedy Expressway runs through the middle of the community area.
